There was also a match race between two other SWSC racers. J.D. St.
Cyr out of El Paso, in his supercharged, small block-powered ‘55 Chevy
pick-up lined up against Timothy O’Moore out of Tucson and his a ‘69 AMX
sedan sporting an injected, 572 ci, alky-burning Hemi. O'Moore and St.
Cyr had one run Friday night and St. Cyr took the win light with his
all-time best speed of 199.61 mph.
On Saturday night the pair would finish their match race as O’Moore left
on St. Cyr by two car-lengths, but J.D. caught him running a carrier
best 7.10 e.t. at 198.35 mph to Tim’s losing 7.76 e.t. 174.66 mph. The
third round saw O’Moore again strap a holeshot on St. Cyr’s Chevy, but
this time in the attempt to run him down the truck sneezed the
supercharger at about 1200 feet, resulting in a small fire, while
O’Moore ran a 7.936 e.t. at 171.69 mph for the win.
